55+ BC Games Down To The Wire
The 30th annual 55 Plus BC Games are into the final stretch.
Competition in the 27 sports for the 3,600 participants will wrap-up around mid day Saturday.
President Wee Yee says the event will leave a lasting legacy in the community such as new equipment at the Greater Vernon Athletics Park.
“We got over $10,000 worth of equipment that we’ve bought for track and field, so that will stay with the local track club, but I think most importantly, a lot of the track club members are getting certification and experience,” Yee tells Kiss FM.

Yee says the street festival held Thursday night was well attended — and the crowds stuck around.
“That surprised us — joyfully surprised us — so a lot of people stayed. I checked out the restaurants and they were all packed.”
The Games have an estimated economic impact of over 5 million dollars.
The participants take part in a dance Friday night at the Vernon Rec Centre which is also the site for the closing ceremony Saturday at 1:30 pm.
Next year’s event will be in Kimberly-Cranbrook, followed by Kelowna in 2019.
