Fire In BX Storage Building Challenging

Sep 13, 2017 | 8:38 AM

BX-Swan Lake Firefighters spent several hours overnight at a fire on Baker Hogg Road near Swan Lake.

Fire Chief Bill Wacy says they were called just after 10 o’clock to a fire in a garage/storage facility.

“It was originally a large garage/storage old style barn that had been converted into a storage facility. It had some inner structures inside of it that they utilized for storage so it created some challenges.”

Wacy says they took precautions in case any hazardous materials were inside.

“Just the normal stuff you’re going to find in a garage/farm shed. The assorted normal things so we did take precautions in regards to a hazardous environment.”

Fire fighters were able to control the fire so that it did not spread to other buildings on the property or grassland.

“No and simply for the fact it stayed within the confines of the building. If it had broken through anywhere certainly it would have been much more of a concern, but no it was strictly confined to inside of the building itself.”

Firefighters were there until about three o’clock this morning.

Wacy says it doesn’t appear to be suspicious and no one was injured.

Investigators will be back at the scene today to try to pinpoint the cause.
