Sep 6, 2017 | 12:19 PM

Lumby Council is looking ahead to it the village’s future as it works on strategic planning for the coming years.

Mayor Kevin Acton says there are a number of issues to consider.

” We understand that there’s some big issues around housing and there’s some around flooding, around tourism.”

When it comes to housing, there are a number of ideas to look at.

“We’ve talked about everything from encouraging development through what we’ve done already. We’re trying to streamline our building inspection process and make it a service now an authority. That type of thing. have a real development positive attitude.”

As for tourism, Acton is looking for ideas to draw development.

” We’re always looking at a hotel. we’re still talking about a tax revitalization bylaw for a company that’s wiling to put a hotel in where we need it.”

He notes there is also growing interest in heli skiing and back country winter sports as well.

The Mayor says council is looking forward to getting together with professionals and people around town to find out where Lumby wants to head to next.

Meanwhile, Council heard from citizens Tuesday night about a rock crushing operation that’s caused some headaches..

Council was presented with a petition calling for something to be done about the incessant noise and dust created by it.

But Acton says the company itself realized it was an issue.

“They have shut it down themselves so it never grew into the issue it might have been able to. Hopefully, that’s not going to happen again. We’re going to have a conversation with the contractor about their future plans.”

Council also adopted a bylaw forbidding the feeding of resident deer in Lumby.

It comes with a fine of as much as 500 dollars for doing so.
