Armstrong mayor looking to serve second term

The Mayor of Armstrong will have his name on the ballot for the fall municipal election.

Joe Cramer announced he would run for re-election when votes are cast for mayor and council in October.

Cramer was first elected in 2022 and said his first term saw he and council set Armstrong on a stronger course.

“We made council more transparent, improved communication with residents, and began updating how our city operates,” Cramer said in a release.

“These changes may not always be flashy, but they matter. They create the foundation for better decisions, stronger service, and greater public trust. We have also approved the foundation for a 15-year plan to guide Armstrong’s decisions on growth, infrastructure, and long-term financial planning. That plan will help us look beyond immediate pressures, make responsible choices, and prepare our community for the opportunities and challenges ahead.”

Though he touted the accomplishments, Cramer said the election was not about looking back but looking ahead, and he wanted to be involved in progressing the work started in the previous term as that was not enough time to make lasting change and investments in the community .

“Over the next four years, my focus will be on turning that planning into practical results. That means building a staff structure that works well with council and the public, improving communication and follow-through, and completing the planning work already underway,” Cramer stated.

“It also means strengthening partnerships with neighbouring communities and other levels of government so Armstrong can pursue funding, shared solutions, and new opportunities. Most importantly, it means supporting families, businesses, and community groups with steady, practical leadership.”

Cramer was first elected in 2022 in an uncontested race.

Voters will cast their ballots for the local general election on Oct. 17.
