Salmon protection orders issued for Bessette Creek

Orders have been issued to protect Chinook salmon in Bessette Creek.

The ongoing severe drought was causing low streamflows in the river, putting the endangered salmon species at further risk.

“Government, local communities, farmers and other partners have been working together to support water conservation through voluntary measures,” the province said in issuing the order.

“Despite significant efforts, water levels in Bessette Creek remain persistently low, threatening the survival of spawning Chinook salmon.”
