Stage 3 Water Restrictions

Vernon taking steps to conserve water

Jun 6, 2026 | 6:01 AM

The city of Vernon is taking steps to reduce its water use.

With Stage 3 Water Restrictions in place, the city is using reclaimed water for park irrigation and tree watering, and the Clean Team is minimizing the use of its pressure washer with a focus on just clearing biohazards and graffiti.

The water features at local parks and playgrounds were also shut off, though could be turned back on in the case of an extreme heat event. The outdoor pools would remain open and operational under the water restrictions.

“The City is working closely with RDNO to achieve the required 50 per cent reduction for municipal facilities while maintaining key public amenities and community pools,” the municipality stated.

“Water use is being prioritized for high-value, heavily used community spaces, including parks, sports fields, and other active green spaces.”

Vernon and area residents were also asked to do their part by following the water restrictions and reducing their water use when possible.
