RDCO seeks public input on updated wildfire risk strategy
The Regional District of Central Okanagan is inviting residents to provide input on its draft Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan.
The plan focuses on reducing wildfire risk near homes and in surrounding natural areas across Electoral Areas East and West, including communities such as Ellison, Traders Cove, Killiney Beach, Fintry and Joe Rich. The 2026 plan will replace several existing wildfire protection strategies and serve as the region’s primary approach to risk reduction moving forward.
It outlines measures such as fuel management, mitigation work in high-risk areas and the use of FireSmart practices for homes and properties.
Public engagement is open from April 21 to May 3 through an online survey hosted by the regional district. Residents can also review maps, past wildfire activity and proposed fuel treatment areas as part of the process.
