Lasers, drones at YLW could cause catastrophe: RCMP
Mounties say 21 incidents of handheld laser use were reported by air traffic control at Kelowna International Airport last year, as well as five incursions by drones into that controlled airspace.
RCMP said such behaviour can have serious and potentially catastrophic consequences.
Laser strikes distract pilots and create intense glare that interferes with vision. Drones can also distract pilots and may cause catastrophic engine damage if ingested into an aircraft engine.
Fines of up to $5,000 can be issued and more serious incidents can lead to criminal charges.
