Vernon athlete shows strength in tough Poland race

Jul 21, 2025 | 8:56 AM

Vernon’s Shanda Hill is powering through one of the world’s most demanding endurance races, the Poland Ultra Triathlon, showing incredible grit amid punishing heat and physical exhaustion.

Her Facebook page recently acknowledged the outpouring of support, saying, “Shanda has seen all the messages, the love, the concern, and the thoughtful words from everyone who cares.”

It is clear the encouragement is helping fuel her determination.

The race has been brutally hard at times. Hill’s body has pushed back, telling her “no,” and she has faced punishing weather conditions. Despite a severe heat warning in Poland, Shanda remains strong and determined to finish.

She is in the midst of her fourth deca ultra triathlon of 2025, a staggering event that includes a 38-kilometre swim, an 1800-kilometre bike ride, and a 422-kilometre run.

As her Facebook page put it: “She’s not giving up, Shanda is fighting through every hard day and staying focused on crossing that finish line.”

The Poland Ultra Triathlon began on Saturday, July 12, 2025, and is set to conclude on Saturday, July 26, 2025.

The event features both the Deca and Quadruple Ultra Triathlon formats, with time limits of 336 hours (14 days) and 144 hours (six days) respectively.
