Advance voter turnout increased in Vernon

Vernon saw an uptick in early votes for this municipal election.

The city confirmed that 2,964 ballots were cast in early voting opportunities for Vernon Mayor, Council and School District Trustees in the 2026 local general election. Those included 1,357 votes cast on October 7, and another 1,607 ballots submitted on October 14.

That two-day total was up from the 2022 vote, which saw 2,742 ballots cast in advance. The change represented an eight per cent increase in early voter turnout.

It also indicated the turnout would be greater than that seen in the 2022 municipal election when there were 8,677 votes cast for Vernon’s mayor, council and school trustees. That reflected a turnout of just 24.4 per cent of eligible voters.

The early vote counts did not include mail-in ballots or special voting opportunities, which will be tallied and included in the final count after polls close on general voting day.

People wishing to vote in the local general election who did not cast an early vote will be able to fill out their ballot Saturday, October 17. Voting stations will be open between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the Recreation Centre, 3310 37th Avenue; Clarence Fulton Secondary School, 2301 Fulton Road; and Vernon Secondary School, 2100 51st Street.
