Final paving for Vernon multi-use path put over to next spring

The paving of Silver Star Road where a new multi-use path has been added, will be completed next spring.

As part of phase two of the project, the city says the contractor has completed the bottom lift of ashphalt.

“In order to ensure a high-quality, long-lasting road structure, paving of the top lift on Silver Star Road has been scheduled for the spring of 2024,” a city staff update to council stated.

All of the paving for the path and driveways has been completed.

The road will be open in both directions for the winter.

“Caution signs will be placed on Silver Star Road where the pavement transitions from two lifts of asphalt to one,” the staff update added.

Work on the path got underway in February 2022 with Chapman Industries as the contractor.

The path stretches from Pleasant Valley Road by the Silver Star Gateway development, to Blackcomb Way in the Foothills neighbourhood, passing by BX Elementary School.

In May of 2023, the city announced the cost for the second phase was up to $3.5 million, meaning an additional $831,040 was required for the phase. The impact of inflation on construction costs was cited as the main reason.
