Funding approved for new scoreboard at Athletics Park
Local politicians have approved a funding plan for a new scoreboard at the Greater Vernon Athletics Park (GVAP).
The Regional District of North Okanagan will be providing $190,000 for the project after earlier pledges by the Vernon and District Minor Football Association to provide half of the cost from grants and fundraising didn’t materialize.
RDNO had already budgeted $90,000 for the electronic scoreboard, and at its meeting Nov. 15, the board of directors approved a recommendation from the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee for the other $90,000.
RDNO agreed to reallocate $45,000 in general revenue plus $45,000 from the deferral of a goalpost repair project at GVAP (until the artificial turf replacement is required at the GVAP) and from the savings of completed 2023 capital projects, including the Okanagan Rail Trail rock scaling project.
