Raptors return to Allan Brooks Nature Centre

The birds of prey are back for their late summer shows at Vernon’s Allan Brooks Nature Centre.

A sneak preview of The Raptors was provided to local media on Wednesday at the centre, showcasing a Kestral falcon, a Harris hawk, a Turkey vulture and Spectacled owl.

The amazing birds will be part of shows for the public from Aug. 25 to Sept.1 featuring daily flight demonstrations in a group setting, and up-close and personal encounters..

The demos include the raptors displaying their flight skills as their handlers narrate and engage with visitors, discussing their routines, raptor ecology and conservation actions.

The Raptors is an organization based in Duncan B.C. that is dedicated to inspiring conservation and protecting wildlife species.

ABNC manager Cheryl Hood said seeing the birds demonstrate their power and finesse is always something they look forward to.

“We’ve planned this event for some time and are so thrilled to have The Raptors return. The event is a major fundraiser for us and such a huge boost to ABNC,” said Hood.

The birds performed at the Vernon centre last year under smoky skies due to the wildfires, but this year, the skies should be much clearer.
