Security Camera Grants

Deadline extended for Vernon businesses to access security camera funding

Nov 9, 2021 | 1:00 PM

The City of Vernon is extending a grant program to help downtown businesses pay for security cameras on their premises.

The Security Camera Grant was launched in April of 2020 with a budget of $22,000. The goal of the program was to assist merchants in the business improvement area associated with the Downtown Vernon Association by covering up to 50 per cent of the cost of new surveillance cameras or upgrading existing camera systems.

To date, the DVA has used $12,101 of the total funds allocated in 2020, which has provided businesses with 12 additional security camera locations.

The DVA asked that the program be extended so the remaining $9,898 could be used to provide even more security cameras throughout the area.

Councillors Scott Anderson and Brian Quiring excused themselves from the vote Monday as they are considering taking part in the program, and the remaining councillors voted in favour of extending the program.

DVA members who wish to access these funds now have until December 31, 2022, to apply for the grants.
