Advance Polls Ready For Voters

There are six days of advance voting for the BC election, starting this weekend.

Sites in the Vernon Monashee riding are at the Vernon Rec Centre and the White Valley Community Centre in Lumby, from 8 am to 8 pm Saturday and Sunday.

District elections officer Jan Mori says voters can be in and out in just a few minutes.

“We’ve got it, we hope, well manned, and the process we’re using is very fast because there is a computer system in place that will scan their Where to Vote card and print out a label,” Mori tells Kiss FM.

Residents in the Shuswap voting sites can vote at the Centennial Hall in Armstrong, the Seniors Centre in Enderby and the Shuswap Desert Cove Rec Centre in Vernon.

People are asked to bring their Where To Vote card, and a primary piece of ID — like a drivers license.

If you didn’t get a voting card in the mail, you will need to show ID with your residential address and one other piece of ID.

There will be six days of advance voting for this election, up from four in the last BC election in 2013.

Other advance polls are Wednesday, May 3 through Saturday, May 6.

All advance votes cast by voters within their electoral district are counted at initial count on election night.

In the 2013 Provincial Election, 366,558 votes (20.3% of total votes) were cast at advance voting opportunities.

General Voting Day is Tuesday, May 9.

All eligible voters can vote at any general voting place in the province between 8 am and 8 pm.

Voting is also available at district electoral offices until 4 pm on General Voting Day.
