Interior Health still home to majority of new COVID-19 cases

The Interior Health region is now home to 2,446 active COVID-19 cases as 376 new cases were confirmed on Friday.

The new cases make up 53.4 per cent of the 717 new cases identified across British Columbia today.

There are now 4,277 active cases in the province, while 148,964 British Columbians have recovered from the virus.

There are currently 82 individuals in hospital, 39 of whom are in intensive care. Of those hospitalization cases, 34 patients, including 16 in critical care, are located in the Interior Health region.

There were no new COVID-related deaths reported over the past 24 hours.

The province has 11 active outbreak sites, including Nelson Jubilee Manor, Kootenay Street Village, Cottonwoods Care Centre, Brookhaven Care Centre, Village at Mill Creek, Hawthorn Park and David Lloyd Jones in the Interior Health region.

The province also reported an uptick in vaccinations Friday. The current first dose vaccination rate for people aged 12 and over in the province is 82.4 per cent, while 72 per cent of eligible British Columbians are fully inoculated with two doses.
