Evacuation order rescinded for the K3 Cat Ski Lodge

Aug 11, 2021 | 1:25 PM

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District has rescinded an Evacuation Order for the K3 Cat Ski Lodge.

The decision to lift the order comes despite the nearby 420 hectare Bews Creek fire still being classified as ‘Out of Control’ by the B.C. Wildfire Service.

Though people are no longer barred from entering their properties in the area, the CSRD says an Evacuation Alert is still in place, and the order may be issued again if the fire grows and puts people’s lives at risk.

The CSRD advises people returning to their properties to:

  • Pay attention to directions from local authorities
  • Pack supplies like fresh water, non-perishable food, flashlights, shoes and a first aid kit in a go-bag
  • Walk the perimeter of the property and take note of any out-of-place wiring, gas smells or loose debris
  • Contact B.C. Hydro if there are any downed power lines or gas smells
  • Be cautious when entering the house and check the main power breaker
  • Photograph any damage
  • Throw out any food that may have spoiled during a power outage
  • Contact an insurance broker regarding damage or additional expenses
