Early retirement for Shuswap man after lottery win

A Shuswap man has changed his retirement timeline after cashing in a lottery ticket.

Michael Hewlett of Sorrento won $500,000 playing the Extra in the Lotto Max draw on July 13, 2021.

Hewlett discovered his win while at the Matchbox Smoke & Vape Shop in Salmon Arm, where he also purchased the ticket.

“My first thought was that I don’t have to go to work tomorrow,” he said.

Hewlett said the money means he’ll be able to retire three years earlier. With his wife also retired, he has plans to see the rest of Canada on wheels.

“We’re hoping to purchase a camper trailer. I’ve always dreamed about traveling back to Quebec to see my family, and to travel to the East Coast with my wife,” Hewlett remarked.
