B.C. Covid update Tuesday: 108 new cases

British Columbia reported 108 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, up from the 68 on Monday.

Interior Health 37 of the new cases (34.2 per cent).

Elsewhere, Vancouver Coastal Health has 11 new cases, with 53 in Fraser Health, four in Island Health and three in Northern Health.

There are currently 1,496 active cases with 139 people hospitalized, 39 in intensive care.

The outbreak at Kelowna General Hospital is now over. A total of three cases – two patients and one staff – were linked to the outbreak on Unit 3E. One person passed away due to their illness.

There have been no new COVID-19 related deaths, with the total at 1,734.

The province is reporting that 76.1 per cent of all adults in B.C. and 74.4 per cent of those 12 and older have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

In total, 4,102,905 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca vaccines have been administered in B.C., 657,491 of which are second doses.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix had some advice on the day B.C. started Step 2 of its Restart plan, saying the the success in this next phase is dependent on everyone doing their part to keep COVID-19 low and slow.

“If you are considering visiting another community for recreational travel, be aware that some people and some communities are moving at a slower pace – a pace that works for them. These communities may not be ready to welcome visitors at this time, so please be respectful when making any travel plans,” Dix and Henry said in a statement.
