LOGAN LAKE, B.C. — A Logan Lake RCMP member partnered with the community’s volunteer fire chief for a risky rescue mission last week.

The call came in to Logan Lake RCMP at about 11:10 a.m. last Wednesday (Apr. 28). An elderly couple had been hiking at Mimi Falls east of Logan Lake when their dog, Chevy, became stranded on a ledge about three metres down a steep cliff.

The owners had no way to rescue Chevy, an 80-pound, seven-year-old American Bulldog Terrier cross.

“Chevy, who was a rescue herself, had become stuck in a precarious position overlooking the 30-meter deep rocky canyon,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesman for the BC RCMP in the Southeast District in a news release.

Cst. Kyle Vanditmars of Logan Lake RCMP was joined on site by Fire Chief Doug Wilson.

Using climbing and rappelling gear, the two were able to safely retrieve the pup and return her to her grateful owners.
