Interior Health (IH) is reporting 66 new COVID-19 cases since Tuesday, and the region now has 570 active cases.

Eighteen people are in hospital in IH, with four in intensive care, and the total number of deaths in IH remains at three.

New data from the province shows the Okanagan has had 420 COVID-19 cases over the last two weeks (Nov. 13-26).

Since the pandemic started, the Okanagan has had a total of 1,101 cases.

Data from BC Centre for Disease Control

Provincially, 834 new cases were announced Wednesday for a total of 34,728

That includes 174 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 529 in Fraser Health, 20 in Island Health, 66 in Interior Health and 45 in Northern Health.

There are 8,941 active cases in B.C., with 337 people in hospital and 79 in intensive care.

There are 12 more COVID-related deaths for a total of 469.

Currently 10,201 people are being monitored for COVID, and 24,424 have recovered from the virus.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said no decisions have been made on whether to extend, or change, the current travel and social gathering health orders past next Monday (Dec. 7), but added “they can see what’s happening with transmissions.”

Henry also pointed out all indoor adult team sport is prohibited. This includes basketball, cheerleading, combat sports, martial arts, floor hockey, floor ringette, ice hockey, ringette, netball, skating, soccer, squash and volleyball.

On another topic, Henry called it “very exciting” that Britain plans to start COVID-19 vaccinations next week, the first country to do that outside of China and Russia.

“This is part of the solution to what we are going through, but it will be some time before we get there. It is however, clear evidence that we do have light ahead,” Henry stated.

The province’s top doctor said it’s fine, and important, to have a family member return home for the holidays.

“But it is critical that when they come here, they need to follow all of our orders and guidelines. That means no socializing, no going outside the home and having parties or gatherings of any kind right now,” Henry stressed.
