Firefighters help with holiday spirit

Dec 1, 2020 | 11:18 AM

Firefighters in the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) are known for being connected to their communities and stepping up when there’s a need.

And with that in mind, many of the departments are organizing Christmas events to benefit local charities, even though many of the events look different in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All fire department events are operating with COVID-19 safety protocols in place.

Here’s a listing of events in chronological order:

White Lake Fire Department Food Drive – Tuesday, December 1 from 6 PM to 9 PM. The fire fighters and fire trucks will be out in the White Lake Fire area going door-to-door, collecting items for the Sorrento Food Bank. Please leave items outside by your front door or at the end of your driveway for no-contact pick-up. Monetary donations are also being accepted.

Silver Creek Fire Department Food Drive – Every Thursday from now until Dec. 17. Hall will be open from 6:30 PM to 9 PM. Donations of cash or non-perishable food items can be dropped off at the Silver Creek Fire Hall or given to any local firefighter.

Nicholson Fire Department Food Drive – Saturday, December 5 – Fill the Sleigh (or the fire truck). One member and one fire engine will be outside the Golden Bargain Store accepting monetary and non-perishable food donations for the Golden Food Bank.

Tappen-Sunnybrae Fire Department Food Drive – Saturday, December 12 from 10 AM to 2 PM. Non-perishable food or monetary donations can be dropped off at the fire hall with proceeds going to the Women’s Shelter in Salmon Arm (SAFE Society) and the Salvation Army Food Bank in Salmon Arm.

Malakwa Fire Department Food and Toy Drive – Sunday, December 13. Firefighters will be driving around the community to accept donations of cash, new toys or non-perishable food items. Please leave items marked for the food drive in boxes or bags outside your door or on the porch. If you are missed, items can be dropped off to the Malakwa Fire Hall on Tuesday nights from 7 PM to 9 PM.

Swansea Point Fire Department Food Drive and Toy Run – Sunday, December 13. Firefighters will be driving around the community to accept donations of cash, new toys or non-perishable food items.

The CSRD thanks all its firefighters for their service to their neighbours and their communities.
