50-50 lottery

Online fundraiser in final inning

Aug 13, 2020 | 2:14 PM

There’s only one-week left to get tickets in the HOMEBASE 2.0 50/50 Online Lottery for JoeAnna’s House.

Organizers say the jackpot is $7,000 and growing every day.

HOMEBASE, the annual Charity Slo-Pitch Tournament & NHL All-Star Game hosted by Josh Gorges and Blake Comeau, had to be re-imagined this year. The fundraiser for JoeAnna’s House went online pitting Team Gorges vs Team Comeau in a game of fundraising to see which team could sell the most online 50/50 tickets and get the most donations. Their prize is bragging rights and the annual HOMEBASE Cup.

One lucky person will win half the proceeds from the 50/50 lottery.

In terms of the HOMEBASE Cup fundraising challenge, currently Team Gorges is in the lead. Will they make this their third straight win? Or can Team Comeau come back from behind? With one week left, it is still anybody’s game.

But the real winner is JoeAnna’s House.

Since opening in November 2019, JoeAnna’s House has provided a much-needed home away from home for the families of Kelowna General Hospital patients who have had to travel from outside the Central Okanagan for advanced medical care. Its build and continued operation rely solely on the generosity of donors and community fundraising.

“For just a small investment, we can have a big impact for these families,” said Brendan Willis, Branch Manager for Homebase title sponsor, Raymond James Kelowna. “And if we’ve learned anything these past few months, it’s that when we work together, we can accomplish big things.”

Recent JoeAnna’s House guest Shirley Jones, from Montrose B.C. knows first-hand the importance of JoeAnna’s House. After her husband experienced a stroke, she stayed at JoeAnna’s House for 33 days while her husband was being treated at KGH Rehab Centre.

“Being able to stay at JoeAnna’s House meant so much to me and my husband. With the pandemic causing hospital lockdowns, non-essential closures and physical distancing, JoeAnna’s House was a refuge when I needed one most”.

JoeAnna’s House has remained open through the pandemic.

“Everyone is ready for a little friendly competition,” said Comeau. “And it’s for a great cause, supporting JoeAnna’s House, which is really about helping families.”
