Lake levels still high

Some boat launches still closed; boat safety checks planned

Summer is here and local beaches are starting to get busy, but boat launches on Kalamalka Lake in Coldstream remain closed.

The facilities on Kalavista Road and Kinloch Road at the north end of the lake have been closed since late May due to high water levels.

District chief administrative officer Trevor Seibel says there is no change to the closures as the launches are “still under water.”

According to BC Parks, the boat launch at Kekuli Bay Provincial Park on the west side of Kalamalka Lake is open.

The boat launch on Okanagan Lake at Paddlewheel Park in Vernon is open.

The boat launches on Wood and Kalamalka lakes in Lake Country are open, according to the District’s website.

Meantime, boaters should expect to see conservation officers on North Okanagan lakes conducting safety enforcement for the next few weeks.

The officers will be ensuring compliance with safety regulations such as carrying proper licenses and safety equipment.

“While on the water, CO’s will also be conducting angling compliance checks so please familiarize yourself with the regulations before heading out,” said Chris Doyle with the B.C. Conservation Officer Service.
