Lake levels rising

Boat launches in Coldstream closed until further notice

May 28, 2020 | 5:31 PM

The District of Coldstream is closing all boat launches at the north end of Kalamalka Lake effective immediately, and until further notice.

“This step is being taken as a result of continually rising and high water levels on Kalamalka Lake,” said a news release from the district.

Boaters and personal water craft operators are asked to avoid creating waves near the shoreline to prevent damage to property and contribute to shoreline erosion.

“Private docks are also at risk from high water levels and waves. Homeowners can secure anchored docks by ensuring the anchor lines are long enough that they won’t snap if water levels rise,” stated the release.

Pull-up docks should be raised as high as possible. Docks can be secured using sandbags or weighted barrels on the edge of the dock and remove all loose items.

Meantime, the District of Coldstream has announced its office will reopen to the public Monday (June 1) with new safety rules in effect for visitors.

Front counter service for bill payments and general inquiries will be available for walk in visitors.

All other essential services including, but not limited to, development inquiries, building permits, cemetery, utilities, public works and administration should be coordinated through appointment only.

Enhanced protocols have been established for all those who visit the office:

• Please obey all signage when entering and exiting the office.
• Ensure you maintain physical distancing as indicated.
• Please use the hand sanitizer station.
• Filling out your paperwork in advance can help your attendance at the office go more smoothly.

Residents are encouraged to utilize telephone or internet banking for all available bill payments. You can contact the office for any assistance with setting this up.
