Accessible Equipment

Kelowna school getting new playground with provincial funding

May 1, 2026 | 12:37 PM

A French school in Kelowna is getting new playground equipment thanks to a provincial investment.

Through Budget 2026, the province has provided École De L’Anse-Au-Sable with $200,000 for modern, inclusive and accessible playground equipment.

The Kelowna school is one of 25 across B.C. benefiting from investments of $200,000 each in new playgrounds.

“Every child deserves the opportunity to enjoy a safe and accessible place to play,” Premier David Eby stated.

“Playgrounds are outdoor classrooms that teach our children valuable life skills – exploration, imagination, risk taking. This is about making life better for our children and easing the fundraising pressure on parents and schools, so they can focus on other great things for their kids.”

Provincial investments into accessible playgrounds have been made annually since 2018, and to date every school district in B.C. had received funding for at least one new playground.

“Play is an important part of education. It helps children stay active, build friendships, solve problems and grow in confidence,” Lisa Beare, Minister of Education and Child Care, said.

“Students all over British Columbia are benefiting from accessible places to play, learn and grow, thanks to government’s playground fund.”

The investment in playground equipment at École De L’Anse-Au-Sable was the only contribution toward playground equipment in the Okanagan through this round of funding.
