UPDATE: Vipers take down Wild in five games; Round 2 schedule released

Mar 6, 2020 | 10:03 PM

The Vernon Vipers moved on to the second round of the BCHL playoffs with an 8-3 win over the Wenatchee Wild in Washington state Friday.

The Vipers won the series four games to one.

Logan Cash set the tone, scoring for Vernon 23 seconds into the game and the Vipers never trailed.

Surrey B.C. product Cam MacDonald scored two goals and added two assists to power the Vipers offence, while Hunter Donahoe tallied two goals as the Vipers staked out period leads of 3-1 and 4-2, adding four goals in the final frame.

Reilly Herbst made 21 saves for the win in net before a crowd of 1,979 at the Town Toyota Centre.

Vipers head coach Jason McKee says his team “played hard for each other.”

“I’m awfully proud of them. This is a good team (Wenatchee). They’e deep, and to win in five, the way we did, my hats off to the kids. They played hard. Anyone that follows the league knows the depth that team has, and we were able to match it.”

The Vipers will next take on the Penticton Vees, who finished first in the Interior Division and second overall in the league.

“Each round always gets more difficult. We know who we got. We’ve played them pretty well. That last one, I’m going to wipe that out (7-1 Penticton win Feb. 1). It was our fifth game in nine, and the team we are now is not the team we were then. We just have to play hard and see where it goes,” McKee told the Beach Radio post game show.
