Advance Voting Ready To Go

Advance polls for the civic elections start Wednesday in most communities.

Vernon’s first advance poll will be at the Schubert Centre from 8 am to 8 pm.

City spokesperson Nick Nilsen says voters have to be at least 18 years old.

“With Vernon elections, as with many elections, there is no need to pre-register. You just show up at the polls, show us a couple pieces of identification, and you’re good to go,” Nilsen tells Beach Radio News.

Nilsen says there is also a category for what is called a non resident property elector.

“If you own property in Vernon for at least 30 days prior to the election, and you’ve been designated by other owners, if more than one person owns the property, then you can do that (vote),” says Nilsen.

Nilsen says they are hoping for a good turnout.

“The big thing is just to get out there and vote. Municipal elections generally don’t have huge turnouts, so literally every person can make a difference.”

Voter turnout in Vernon in the 2014 election was 30 percent

Coldstream and RDNO also have advance polls, both at their respective offices, also from 8 am to 8 pm.

Further advance polls will be held on Oct 17 and 18 before voting day on Oct 20th.
