Update: Search For Assault Suspect Continues

RCMP say there is no update on the search for a suspect in an assault in North Vernon last Friday evening.

“I don’t have any updates on that file for public release at this time,” said Cst. Kelly Brett when contacted Tuesday by Beach Radio News.

A woman told police she was grabbed from behind and assaulted by a man while walking on a board walk trail in the 22hundred block of 58th Ave,

After struggling with him, the woman managed to break free causing the suspect to run off.

The only description of the man is that he was Caucasian, about 30 years old, with a tall skinny build.

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP is advising the public about a brazen assault that occurred in the North Vernon area in the early evening of October 5th and is appealing for any further information that may lead to the identity of a suspect.

On October 5th, 2018, just before 6:00 pm, the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP received a report of an adult female who was grabbed from behind and assaulted by an unknown male while walking on a board walk trail in the area of 2200 58th Ave, Vernon, BC. After struggling with the male, the woman managed to break free causing the suspect to flee north bound on foot. Police responded to the area after receiving the report, however the male was not located.

“The police are pursuing all avenues of the investigation to identify the suspect, said Cst. Kelly Brett. We are looking for any witnesses who may have been in the area or heard anything at the time of the assault to come forward and speak to police”.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, approximately 30 years of age, with a tall skinny build.

The victim in this incident sustained minor physical injuries and can be commended for her fighting mentality. Adds Brett.
