Spallumcheen-Armstrong Fire

Armstrong-Spallumcheen Fire Hire

Oct 4, 2018 | 8:04 AM

Armstrong and Spallumcheen are making investments in their shared fire department.

Spallumcheen mayor Janice Brown says the communities will be hiring a deputy fire chief to go along with the current chief and fire inspector.

“Our new assistant will help train the men and will help us relieve the hours during the week during the day. And we have to have so many firemen and we have to have drivers for the truck and at the same time there’s a lot more paperwork that needs to be done and training because of liability issues and safety issues.”

Brown says a request for a new command fire vehicle has been referred to next year’s budget discussions.

Delivery of a one million dollar fire truck for the Armstrong- Spallumcheen Fire Department is taking longer than expected.

“Doesn’t everybody blame everything on NAFTA, because if the steel, they ended up apparently having to get some steel from China. So it delayed it until December.”

Spall pays 60% of the capital costs, and Armstrong, the other 40.
