New Rules For Small Wheel Transport

The City of Vernon has adopted new regulations that allow small wheeled transportation to use the transportation network the same way as cyclists and pedestrians.

The list includes skateboards, longboards, foot-operated scooters, and children aged 12 and under on bicycles.

To help residents understand the new rules, and how to navigate roads and pathways, the City has developed an educational guide called This Is How We Roll.

Residents can visit www.vernon.ca/vernonmoves to download the guide.

Thursday, October 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Schubert Centre
Saturday, October 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Venture Training Bike Drive located at the Kin Race Track
Tuesday, October 16, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Greater Vernon Recreation Centre

These amendments were part of the new Traffic Bylaw #5600, adopted by Council at its September 24 Regular Meeting. T

While many regulations remain the same, the following updated regulations should be noted:

On-street and off-street parking regulation changes, including no parking within 1 metre of a driveway; Revised heavy truck definition, including details regarding truck routes and truck ban routes; and increased details regarding road usage permits, vision triangles at intersections, and snow and ice regulations on roadways.
