Cell Phone Driver Dials Up Trouble

Oct 1, 2018 | 2:53 PM

A driver seen using a cell phone by police is now facing much more serious charges.

Police say the man failed to stop when ordered to do so during a distracted driving enforcement last Friday,  and as he sped away, just missed hitting a City bus and another vehicle.

“The suspect vehicle continued to drive erratically through heavy traffic on 32nd Ave, allegedly swerving into on-coming traffic and disobeying traffic lights,” says Cst. Kelly Brett.

The vehicle crashed into a power pole at 43rd Avenue and 27th Street a few minutes later, when the driver tried to flee on foot, but was apprehended.

“The driver, a 21 year old Vernon male, had outstanding warrants out of the Vernon area. He is now facing new charges that could include: dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police. The male has now been released from police custody to appear in court on a future date,” says Brett.
