Get To Know Your Referendum
Residents go to the polls three weeks from Saturday to elect their civic leaders for the next four years — but Greater Vernon voters will also determine the fate of a proposed new cultural facility.
The Regional District is sharing the referendum question that will be on the ballot Oct 20th, which follows.
“Are you in favour of the Regional District adopting the following bylaws:
Greater Vernon Cultural Service Establishment Bylaw No. 2785; and Greater Vernon Multi-Purpose Cultural Facility Loan Authorization Bylaw No. 2786 which authorizes the Regional District of North Okanagan to establish a cultural service and borrow an amount not to exceed $25,000,000 for the purpose of financing a portion of the monies required for the acquisition of lands and construction of a new Multi-Purpose Cultural Facility for the Greater Vernon Service: yes or no.”
The vote will seek consent to borrow up to 25 million dollars for a new multi purpose cultural centre to be built on the Vernon block, a current parking lot, on 31st Avenue at 29th Street.
