Enderby Mayor Looking Forward To Election Race

Enderby Mayor Greg McCune finds himself in an election race this year.

McCune, who became Mayor in 2014 rising out of the council ranks to defeat Howie Cyr, faces RDNO Director Herman Halvorson, says he’s ready for it.

“Herman’s been around and has been a part of the political world for many years so I’ve definitely got a challenge ahead of me but I’m looking forward to it. You know, we’re very proud of what we’ve done in Enderby and we believe the community likes the direction we’re going.”

Reducing the city’s debt is one of Halvorson’s key goals .

McCune admits there’s a debt, but feels it’s not bad.

“Well for the last ten years or so for example, we’re kind of in the 3.4 million dollar range, based on about 100 million in assets. So, that’s actually pretty darn good. We’re pretty proud of that.”

McCune says when he came into office the debt was higher at about 3.7 million.

He figures that’s pretty good when you consider the projects completed and the water debt erased.

McCune admits it will be a different a race this this compared with 2014..

He remembers when he was a councillor challenging Howie Cyr.

“Having to, I guess, talk about what I saw as a vision and where we were hoping to go. Now we’re showing where we’re going and now it’s a matter of just convincing people or hearing from them that they’re comfortable with that direction.”

McCune says he feels council has been firing on all eight cylinders in providing the services needed for the community.

He says his plan is to continue to make Enderby amazing, sustainable and affordable.
