Acclaimed Lumby Mayor Ready To Keep Working

Sep 17, 2018 | 9:15 AM

You’ll likely be hearing from civic election candidate in the coming days since nominations closed on Friday.

Two communities won’t have an election for Mayor – Armstrong and Lumby- where Chris Pieper and Kevin Acton were acclaimed

Acton is trying not to read too much into that

“Because it is a small community and people know that it’s a huge job. I’m definitely reluctant to think I’m just doing a wonderful job.”

It’s still gratifying he’s going to have a chance to keep on with some pet projects.

” I’m ready to continue dealing with the job. I think people realize that there is some projects that  are going to need some continuity. We’ve got some huge things that need some flow through. I’m very happy just to continue working and put my nose to the grindstone.”

It will be his 4th term as Mayor.

Acton notes a lot of interest has been put forward for council so obviously people are interested in what’s going on in the community.

Eight people are running for 4 council spots and he is surprised by the late rush of candidates.

” I guess some people are waiting to see what’s going to happen and so maybe they’re holding off until they get to see what happens. I don’t know how much of it’s politicking.”

One candidate waited until 3:59 Friday to filed papers with the deadline at 4 pm.

He says he’s not surprised to see so many coming forward, but he’ll be interested to hear their ideas.
