Water a key focus for RDNO Area B candidate

A challenger has emerged in the race to sit as Director of RDNO Area B, Swan Lake – Commonage.

Kevin Brown has submitted his paperwork and will have his name on the ballot in the fall municipal election.

Brown is a water-treatment services professional and holds a Bachelor of Chemistry from Simon Fraser University, and said in a release this experience would be beneficial ” as we tackle the challenges ahead, including water shortages and the growing need to use reclaimed water.”

The candidate also opposed the development of the Greater Vernon Wastewater Treatment facility, stating “development is often presented to improve services, but shifting from a rural, septic-based community to a high-density, sewer-based one would significantly increase property taxes.” He also stated converting properties from septic to the sewer system would come with a high price
