Weekend rain not enough to impact drought conditions: River Forecast Centre

Aug 26, 2026 | 10:07 AM

The weekend rain was not enough to make any significant differences to the ongoing drought conditions.

The B.C. River Forecast Centre told Vernon Matters in an email that Okanagan communities recorded up to 18 millimetres of rainfall Saturday and Sunday.

The agency noted that “the rainfall produced only minor streamflow increases, and responses were short-lived and levels are already declining.”

The River Forecast Centre said rain on Aug. 2-3 was beneficial, but in order for it to make any significant difference to conditions it would need to be “more widespread and persistent rainfall over multiple days.”
