BC Highway Patrol ramps up enforcement for May safety campaign
Drivers across B.C. can expect increased police enforcement in May as the BC Highway Patrol launches its annual High-Risk Driving and Motorcycle Awareness campaign.
Officers will be targeting speeding, impaired, distracted and aggressive driving as traffic volumes rise with warmer weather.
“There are two keys to keeping motorcyclists safer,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol. “Number one, motorcyclists need to slow down and drive defensively. Number two, every other motorist needs to pay attention and consciously look for motorcycles so that collisions can be avoided.”
Police are also reminding riders to stay within their limits, avoid impairment and distractions, and consider additional training. Enforcement will run throughout May, including the May long weekend, which police say is one of the most dangerous periods on B.C. roads.
