Smile Cookie campaign supporting neonatal care at Vernon’s hospital

Tim Hortons’ annual fundraiser is going to support infant care at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.

From April 27 to May 3, proceeds from the sale of Smile Cookies at the five Tim Hortons locations in Vernon and Lumby will go towards the purchase of a Giraffe for the local hospital.

The Giraffe is a specialized piece of neonatal care equipment that mimics the womb and supports premature and critically ill infants so they can grow stronger and recover.

The machine stabilizes a baby’s body temperature and is equipped with critical infant-sized resuscitation tools. It also serves as an isolation bay, protecting the infant against infection and managing light and noise exposure.

“We’re so grateful to be Tims’ charity of choice again this year,” Kate McBrearty, executive director of VJH Foundation, said.

“Our local Tim Hortons have been supporting our work for over 25 years. That’s incredible! Community partners play such a vital part in our fundraising success and the impact that our community has on healthcare in our North Okanagan region.”

The VJH Foundation was also running its Spring Campaign to collect community contributions in support of purchasing this machine.
