Registration open for mental health cycling event

People will be strapping on their helmets and hitting the road on their bikes in support of youth mental health.

The Vernon and District branch of the Canada Mental Health Association (CMHA Vernon) will hold its Ride Don’t Hide event June 7.

It will see participating riders cycle one of five routes spanning four to 50 kilometres through Vernon and Coldstream to raise awareness and funds for CMHA Vernon’s programs aimed at supporting youth and young adults.

“Ride Don’t Hide is such a great opportunity to come together as a community, and we can’t wait to see our friends and neighbours,” Julia Payson, executive director of CMHA Vernon, said.

“Every dollar raised goes straight back into supporting local youth aged 12 to 24 and helping us grow these services even further. We’re incredibly proud of the impact being made through the Youth Integrated Services Hub (YISH), where supports like counselling and a no barrier food pantry are making a real difference in young people’s lives,” she said. “YISH is also just the beginning. It’s paving the way for Foundry North Okanagan, which will bring even more community partners together to better support youth and their families.”

Registration for Ride Don’t Hide opened Monday, April 27, and riders wishing to participate as an individual or in a team could sign up online here.

The ride’s starting point will be Polson Park, and participants will also be able to sign up on the day before the first cyclists start their ride.
