West Kelowna RCMP’s Indigenous Police Service will hold its Youth Canoe Journey next week.

The officers will be joined by 20 participating youth, as well as adults and chaperones, in a canoe trip from Powell Beach in Summerland to Bear Creek Provincial Park in West kelowna.

The 55.2 kilometre excursion will begin Monday, August 26, and will take four days to complete.

Three canoes will be used for the annual trip, with youth learning valuable lessons and history along the way.

“The goal of the journey is to help build a better relationship with the RCMP and aboriginal communities while educating Indigenous youth the importance of water safety,” Sergeant Laura Pollock, Media Relations Officer with the West Kelowna RCMP, said.

“This is another opportunity for the youth to learn about a possible career in the RCMP while on their journey,”
