‘Songs we can all relate to’: Hawksley Workman to perform in Shuswap

Apr 10, 2024 | 7:00 AM

Hawksley Workman will bring his show to Salmon Arm this fall.

The Canadian singer-songwriter, who has released 17 solo records in his career, will perform at Salmon Arm’s Song Sparrow Hall on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024.

The 49-year-old Workman, who was born Ryan Corrigan in Huntsville, Ontario, had wanted to return to the Shuswap after a cancelled performance at the 31st annual ROOTS and BLUES Festival last summer.

Organizers say Workman’s show is rooted in his catalogue that includes everything from major label international smash hits to Canadiana-soaked indie releases.

“Hawksley has a unique way of blending together folk, chart-toppers and cabaret pop in songs that we can all relate to—the weather, love, heartbreak and tales of end-times,” Kevin Tobin, artistic director, Salmon Arm Folk Music Society, said.

“The Juno Award-winning and gold record-certified musician has headlined shows at prestigious venues like Toronto’s Massey Hall and The Olympia in Paris. A uniquely Canadian artist, Workman has built an international fan base through tours in the UK, France, Norway and Australia. Fans have followed Workman since his ground-breaking and self-produced indie debut For Him and The Girls (1999) all the way through to his chart-topping singles and recent release, Less Rage More Tears (2020),” the Salmon Arm Folk Music Society said.

Tickets to see Hawksley Workman at Song Sparrow Hall are $37.50 and go on sale Friday, April 12. The all-ages, licensed show starts at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 3. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Visit online at rootsandblues.ca or call 250-833-4096 for tickets and more information.

Staff at the music society are also busy preparing for the 32nd annual ROOTS and BLUES Festival July 26-28. Advanced pricing tickets are now available, and camping is nearly sold out.
