Highway Collision

Highway collision leaves one person dead

Jul 13, 2022 | 9:48 AM

A collision on Highway 97A Tuesday resulted in one person being declared deceased at the scene.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP and personnel from the B.C. Ambulance Service and Armstrong Spallumcheen Fire Rescue Services were called to the scene of the crash on Highway 97A near the intersection with Greenhow Road shortly after 11 a.m., July 12.

Mounties say the investigation determined a pickup truck travelling north on the highway crossed the centre line, striking two oncoming vehicles before colliding head-on with a dump truck.

The driver of the pickup, a 70-year-old Enderby man, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the dump truck was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The highway was closed for several hours just north of Swan Lake as emergency personnel completed the work and the police conducted their investigation.

A member of the RCMP Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services conducted a full examination of the scene Tuesday and will be assisting with the ongoing investigation.

Any witnesses to the collision or anyone with dash-cam footage of the incident are asked to contact the Armstrong office of the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at 250-546-3028 and quote file number 2022-4172.
