People asked to take a bite of the Golden Burger Challenge

Oct 12, 2021 | 2:24 PM

A new fundraising event will highlight great tasting food in Vernon, and benefit a local charity.

The Golden Burger Challenge is being held from October 11–24 with participants encouraged to try ten burgers at ten restaurants over 12 days, and then rate the food.

North Okanagan Community Life Society (NOCLS) is hosting the first-time event with the winning restaurant being awarded the the Best Burger Golden Trophy.

“Although this is a fundraiser for NOCLS, we are striving to involve the community in this fun event to support our local sponsors, and drive local and tourist traffic back to our amazing local establishment after a few very tough years,” the society told Vernon Matters.

People are asked to go to, or order out, from one of the participating restaurants from now until Oct. 24 and order the NOCLS challenge burger. After enjoying the food, visitors can scan the QR code and follow the steps to rate the burger.

Each time a person votes they qualify for one of three great prizes donated by City Furniture, Olive Us, and Cottons Chocolate, and $5.00 from each burger will go to NOCLS.

For the past 35 years, North Okanagan Community Life Society has been instrumental in the community, working with people with disabilities.

“We focus on facilitating services for families and individuals who wish to live and work in the community independently. We implement and support individuals so they can pursue activities and interests and provide opportunities for them to make contributions to their community,” the society said.

The challenge is sponsored by 107.5 Beach Radio, Vernon FreshCo, Davidson Lawyers, Sproing Creative and DTO

Participating restaurants are Mr. Mikes, Diner on Six, Rosters Sports Club Bar & Grill, Marten Brewing Bar & Grill, Alexanders Pub, The Kal, Longhorn Pub, Bourbon Street Bar & Grill, Eatology and Brown’s Social House.
