2,364 new COVID cases in B.C., 46 new deaths

British Columbia is reporting 2,364 new COVID-19 cases from over the weekend, and 46 new deaths.

The numbers include 750 cases from Friday to Saturday, 731 from Saturday to Sunday and 596 from Sunday to Monday.

Another 277 historical cases were added in the Fraser Health region for the period from Nov. 18-26.

Of the new cases, 371 are in Vancouver Coastal Health, 1,365 in Fraser Health (plus the 277 historical cases), 58 in Island Health, 212 in Interior Health, 73 in Northern Health and one resident from outside Canada.

The 212 new cases in Interior Health (IH) raise the total to 1,750.

There are 490 active cases, with 15 people in hospital and five in intensive care.

There are now 8,855 active cases, with 316 people in hospital, and 75 in critical or intensive care.

Currently, 10,139 people are under active monitoring and 23,111 have recovered from the virus.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said the 46 deaths over the three days was “the highest number we have ever had.”

“These people have faces, have names have stories have families,” said Henry as she reminded people the virus “takes lives.”

Health Minister Adrian Dix said 35 of the victims were from Fraser Health with 11 from Vancouver Coastal.

The provincial death toll from COVID-19 is now at 441.

There are five new health care outbreaks including one staff member an one resident at Mountainview Village in Kelowna.

There is one new community outbreak at Newton Elementary in Fraser Health which has led to the school being closed for two weeks with students and staff self-isolating.
