Online space encourages community wellness

May 15, 2020 | 9:47 AM

A couple of post secondary students have created online spaces to promote the mental health and well-being of residents in Armstrong and Spallumcheen.

Sean Newton, president of the Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce, which is affiliated with the project, said they hope the space will allow residents of all ages to come together.

“During these challenging times for our businesses and residents, we understand the importance of staying connected with our community and fostering community mental and physical well-being,” said Newton.

You can access the space on Facebook @ArmstrongSpallCommunityWellness and on Instagram @ArmstrongTogether

“If you want to share any live or video recorded online classes, please send a direct message the pages,” said Rachel Krahn, one of the moderators. “From there, we will post the link or video onto both our Instagram and Facebook page for community wide access.”

“‘We welcome anyone wanting to share or teach online activities/classes,” stated Jenna Churchill, the other moderator. “We hope through creating an online space we are able to support both connectedness and personal health.”

Online yoga, art, cooking, fitness, creative writing classes and more are all encouraged. The page will also be sharing online community activities and classes currently being offered.
