Councillor resigns after council votes itself huge pay raises

A councillor in the City of Revelstoke says he has resigned over significant pay raises his colleagues voted for themselves.

Steven Cross says he’s quitting as a matter of principle.

In a post to his Facebook page, Cross says his resignation is effective February 7.

Cross says council’s decision to approve a 134 per cent rise in compensation for the mayor’s chair, currently occupied by Gary Sulz, and a 67 per cent bump for councillors represent “self-interest over mission of service to our community.”
