Pay Raise For Armstrong Council

Pay Raise For Armstrong Council

Oct 11, 2018 | 6:40 AM

Armstrong Council has joined other communities in approving salary increases for Mayor and Councillors due to federal changes that takes away a tax-free stipend.

Mayor Chris Pieper says it’s a fair change

“The adjustment is around 8.3 per cent required to maintain the same take-home pay as we are right now. each year we look at the cost-of-living and the cost-of-living this year is 2.9 per cent.”

That means the combined change as of January 1st will be 11.25 per cent.

Pieper says says it`s not a lucrative job, but one done to give back

“I think if you do it for the money you’re wasting your time. If you do it for the community, then there’s definitely rewards there in your passion and your pride for the community.”
.
The Mayor`s gross salary will rise to 24 thousand 800, but take home after taxes will be the same.
