Fortis Customers Asked To Reduce Gas Use

Fortis BC customers are being asked to reduce their natural gas use in the wake of a pipeline explosion north of Prince George Tuesday.

The utility says its infrastructure wasn’t damaged, but they use the pipeline, owned by Enbridge, to supply natural gas to customers across the province.

Fortis had to shut off the pipeline and as many as 700,000 customers – –70 % of their clients in BC — could lose gas supply before repairs can be made.

Douglas Stout, vice-president of external relations, says anyone who consumes natural gas is asked to cut back to as little as possible to get through the situation to everybody’s benefit.
