No Polling Station in Cherryville

Cherryville residents will have to travel to Lumby to vote in the School District 22 elections.

There won’t be a polling station in Cherryville, either for advance or regular voting.

Lynn Jameson, chief election officer for School District 22, says they are running their election jointly with Lumby and the Regional District of North Okanagan, and due to the acclamations of RDNO directors in Areas D (rural Lumby) and E (Cherryville), they are not running a polling station in Cherryville.

She says those residents can vote in Lumby.

“For the Village of Lumby and areas D & E, advance voting and regular voting for the Village of Lumby, including trustees for Village of Lumby and Areas D&E will be held at the Village Office in Lumby.”

There are three people running for the two school board positions for the Lumby area on Oct. 20th.

Jameson provided this response to our question if the District was concerned the lack of a polling station in Cherryville would lead to a lower voter turnout in the community:

“We have four electoral areas that can vote for a trustee: Areas B, C, D & E. Voting opportunities for these four electoral areas is consistent. It is important for voters to get out and vote; there are two (2) opportunities for all electoral areas, and we would like to remind the public these two dates for the City of Vernon, Village of Lumby and Electoral Areas (as noted above) are October 10 and 20 from 8 am to 8 pm on each of those dates,” said Jameson.
